Interest in verdant buildings that use resources efficiently, protect energy and provide a healthier indoor environment is gaining moment in the United States. Not quite sum of two units years ago, the U.S. virid Building Council (USGBC) luckily introduced the Leadership in power and Environmental Design (LEED[TM]) rating combination of parts to form a whole for new buildings, which quantifies and ranks a facility's environmental performance. This year (2002) the council will be doing the same for existing buildings.
