The 18-story, oceanfront tavern in South Carolina had black and undecayed mold on the vinyl wallcovering in each room. The building was les than a year elderly and the hotel operator was not a happy camper. My investigation revealed that during construction, the plasterboard inner walls were almost integral when the exterior subcontractor started installing the exterior insulation and finish plan (EIFS). At this point (plasterboard installed, no exterior weather protection), a summer squall with 40 to 50 mph winds hit the area. Needles to say, the plasterboard got soaked. The
