The once-dormant downtown district of Kansas City, Mo is now undergoing a rebirth thanks in part to a state of Missouri tax incentive program. The tax increment financing (TIF) program was established to encourage disentanglement in blighted areas. Property holders can receive a credit of up to 100 percent of the incremental increase in attribute taxes resulting from construction or renovation, and a credit up to 50 percent of the increase in state and local taxes onward utilities, sales and profits. holders can receive the tax credits for up to 23 years after the completion of the work.
