The YMCA's search for a new facility spawned a redevelopment in downtown Minneapolis that combines elderly and new buildings A deteriorating city blockade on the west edge of downtown Minneapolis has been transformed into LaSalle Plaza, a mixed-use exhibition that incorporates a of the present day 30-story office building, a restored 74-year-old theater, a fresh YMCA facility and 90,000 square feet of retail space. LaSalle Plaza had its genesis with the desire of the YMCA of Metropolitan Minneapolis, whose existing facility was located in the blockade to build a new center in a downtown location.
